The Beginning
Where do I begin? Like many people in a sales role, I began my career not intentionally in sales.
I grew up in West Texas dreaming of the world and opportunities that were waiting. I went to Texas Tech for 2 years before transferring to an Interior Design school in Chicago. Not knowing a soul, all I had was my college and work. There were two required courses on Lighting and when I did my Thesis, I focused on lighting and how it makes a space come to life. I was fortunate enough to land a job upon graduation in the middle of a recession that was still industry related. I was providing freelance Interior Design Services out of a very high-end homewares store in downtown Chicago. Thus, my introduction into sales.
I loved it - the variety of people and cultures I was able to meet, the world it opened my eyes to, and the ‘gift’ I didn’t know I had - providing solutions for individuals.
My skills continued to develop and grow, and I was later introduced to the lighting industry in my first commercial lighting sales role. I was hired as an Architectural Lighting Sales person for a privately held Global company, and very quickly immersed myself into the industry and what a sales role entailed. I had a few very significant wins - Wrigley Field Renovation, Apple Store Chicago, Wexner Center of the Arts, Art Gallery of Ontario - and was promoted and moved to New York City to focus on museums and art galleries. I had doubled my territory sales in a matter of 16 months through determination, grit, consistency, relationship management and development.
After 15 years of professional and personal development, I’m taking a bet on myself to help companies grow intentionally and help sales teams lead with purpose.
